I am ready to invest in a TNC for 2M packet radio to use in the Roanoke area. Is there any packet activity, and if so, what frequencies? I spun through the band plan for packet on 4/12 at 2000 Hrs. edt, and didn't find any activity at all. Theron Flannery Keep a good name, your chin up, and smile a lot! Plan for good things to happen. Morning JT, Packett is all but dead in this area, while we do still have a few digis they are not used for much. Winlink is the new way to go. If you go to www.winlink.org and look for the download page. Find Airmail and go to that site, then down load the Airmail program and install it. But Airmail and Pacmail is normally used for emergency communications. I have both an Airmail and also an RMS station The RMS is sort of the emergency managers relay for all of the others in the area. If you go to Glen Sages W4GHS site www.w4ghs.org/winlink.html, you can see the RMS stations in the area along with the Airmail stations. It's been set up as each County has a frequency to use and then some of have the ability to switch between RMS stations to be able to pick up the overflow from an area. Hope that helps. 73 Russ Abbey KG4MAV U.S. Navy retired, woodworker extraordinaire, student, avid reader, Enjoying life!
